Before you start
When the readiness check finds something, it appears above the Start button, with the same items as the toolbar pill. Errors, and any provider key the agent still needs, are listed under Fix this before you start and block the call. Warnings sit under N things to check; click to expand them. They do not block the call, but read them: a Calendar tool with a missing Event Type ID is dropped before the call starts, so the agent cannot book even if it says it can. When nothing needs attention, the list is not shown and you can start right away. The list covers Draft only. Live runs the version you already published.Draft or Live
After the first publish, a selector appears at the top of the Playground:- Draft is the agent as it is on the canvas right now, including unsaved edits.
- Live is the version you last published. This is what share links and phone numbers use.
Chat mode
Pick a mode before you start. The mode is fixed for the whole call. End the call to switch.
Use Text only to check wording and routing quickly, or when you cannot speak out loud.
Input variables
If the Persona has input variables, each one appears as a field under Test Variables. Required variables are marked with an asterisk and must be filled before the call can start; the panel says Fill in the required test variables to start. until they are. Optional ones take their default when left empty. These are the values a real caller’s link or phone number would supply, such as a customer name.Starting the call
Click Start conversation. The panel shows Connecting to your voice agent… and then the agent speaks its greeting. Allow microphone access when the browser asks. While it is connecting you can click Cancel. If the agent is still waking up, the panel shows Waking the agent… attempt N of M. A few Try saying suggestions appear under the Start button. They are written for this agent; say one out loud once the call starts. In Type → Voice and Text only, they also appear above the message box until you send your first message; click one to put it in the box, then press Enter to send it.During the call
- Transcript. Every turn appears as it happens, labelled You and Agent. The transcript is saved to Conversation history.
- Canvas. The active Skill is highlighted, branches animate when taken, and tools show a spinner while they run. See Watch the call on the canvas.
- Diagnostics. Click Diagnostics: Off at the bottom of the panel to turn it on and see response time per turn, routing and session ids. Leave it off for a clean view. The setting is remembered.
Conversation history
Click View conversation history in the Playground, or the Conversation history icon on the right rail in Advanced. Each past call lists the mode, the duration and the full transcript, with the Skill each turn belonged to. Use it to compare runs after a change.Good habits
- Test the first thirty seconds often. The greeting and the first question decide how the call feels.
- Try the unhappy paths: a caller who refuses to give a phone number, a caller in the wrong language, a request outside the agent’s job.
- Test with Live after you publish, so you hear exactly what callers hear.
